Radio Cymru's acting Head of Content Dafydd Meredydd gets the permanent gig after three months, and the title Head of Welsh Language Services, in charge of BBC Radio Cymru, BBC Radio Cymru 2 and online operation BBC Cymru Fyw. The previous postholder, Rhuanedd Richards, has been elevated to the title BBC Cymru Wales’s Director of Content and Services.
Dafydd's dad is Arwel Jones, singer in the Country & Western style singing group Hogia'r Wyddfa, in business for 50 years. Dafydd himself was more disco - recording songs under the name 'Dafydd Du a'r Ladies'.
Originally from Penarwaen in Gwynedd, Dafydd Meredydd went to Aberystwyth University to study Physics, before presenting a children's science show for S4C, Pantecnicon. On radio he's presented Gwell Hwyr Na Hwyrach, Tonfedd, Paid a Bod Ofn, Ram Jam a Ram Jam Sadwrn, and more recently co-hosted the breakfast show on Radio Cymru 2 with Caryl Parry Jones.
