The new guidance on paid public speaking engagements by BBC presenters and others is 'under development'. But in its current form, it won't give the anti-BBC press the red meat they desire.
The register of approved outside events will only show whether the fee was above or below £5k, and will be issued quarterly, starting in April, to cover January to March 2021.
Who has to get approval for public appearances ? The definition moves from the old 'news and current affairs' staff to 'all on-air staff and presenters involved in News or ‘near News’ content across News & Current Affairs, Nations and Regions, Radio and Sports News.'
'Near News' - clear as mud. Probably doesn't include Gary Lineker, though.
