Company news

Reporting from Stephen Delahunty on the Third Sector website helps us with the Insolvency Service v Directors of Kids Company, now in its second week.

The Insolvency Service's main witness is Anthony Hannon, appointed public interest Official Receiver in this case, whose work has generated so many files for the lawyers to plough through. Mr Hannon has previously handled Boris Becker, "Liechtenstein" bankers, and coloured diamond dealers.

George 'Lethal' Bompas, QC for Kids Company directors including Alan Yentob, asked Mr Hannon if his criticism of the trustees was that they were "woolly and optimistic or untruthful?”

“My criticism is that the company was in decline for a long time,” said Hannon. He noted that Alan Yentob talked about being fobbed off by the Government over funding requests 82 times, and questioned if they really thought the 83rd request would be successful.

Mr Bompas made the point that Kids Company did receive government money in the end. “But not £20m, or anything like it,” said Mr Hannon. Kids Company’s annual spend was over £20m a year when it collapsed.
