Last night's BBC News at Ten led with, essentially, a four minute vox pop from old Northumberland and Durham by Special Correspondent Ed Thomas, with special wobbly camerawork. It 'informed' in as much as it carried some views from the public about what was about to happen and why. It was a perfectly responsible as a second piece, especially from a news organisation seeking to be loved more by the North of England.
But it didn't answer any questions about why the new measures were needed especially in the north-east; it didn't tell us if there were more hospital admissions, more patients on incubators, more deaths, more positive tests as a proportion of all tests, or just more positive tests; it didn't include the qualified opinions of anyone in the area who might have explained why the new measures were necessary that area.
