Pauline conversion

Sunday morning's now regular attack of the vapours for the liberal media is once again provided by The Mail's ever-connected Glen Owen, who says that Boris Johnson has asked former Mail editor Paul Dacre to become chairman of Ofcom.

Paul's last dismissal of regulators, in his farewell speech to to the Society of Editors ran thus "Let’s not forget that one of Leveson’s proposals to deal with the press was to involve OFCOM – a crass idea that was rightly quickly rejected by the politicians."

Measured Mr Dacre IS in favour, however of regulation for Internet Giants (who can he mean ?) - "an utterly unregulated, defiantly anarchic, arrogantly unaccountable, awesomely ubiquitous digital monster which regarded itself as above the law, churned out fake news, tried to rig elections, invaded citizens’ privacy on a cosmic scale, provided succour to terrorists and paedophiles, devastated our high streets, and, oh yes, made billions but paid barely any taxes." .

In the same speech, Dacre, once described as 'both prim and volcanic', laid into left-wing Professors of Journalism. He'll meet plenty of them at Ofcom.
