More outward manifestations of hard times at the BBC. We are promised a weekday morning magazine in the style of The One Show on BBC1 soon, starting at 9.15am, as a sort of indolent matching bookend to the non-working day.
This type of show, with free guests plugging books, films, theatre tours, records and BBC productions, is around the cheapest to make in terms of tariff, as former BBC1 controller Peter Fincham noted when he created evening space for The One Show back on 2006.
Meanwhile a string of expensive actors are leaving EastEnders, with those that stay being expected to take chunks of time off without pay, as characters are 'rotated', and episode lengths cut by a third. The balance sheet and audience return for the very expensive new set looks like something that the NAO may wish to revisit.
...and also, the "One Show" studio (?) in Entwistle Plaza is free on weekday mornings!
