Would it have got there without a pandemic ? The Great British Sewing Bee has topped the BBC1 ratings for the week ending 24 May, with consolidated figures of 6.1m. There will be many a social historian puzzled by that in the years ahead, if, of course, we're not all wiped out. It may be that the under 35s simply fled the house in that week for their own personal Barnard Castles, with Countryfile and the Antiques Roadshow taking second and third places.
Overall, there are some signs of news fatigue, with a few editions of the BBC1 Six O'Clock bulletin falling below a still very healthy 5m.
