He had to go

The Tim & Tony Show was, perhaps predictably, a damp squib. DG Lord Hall briefly interviewed DG-elect Tim Davie at the start of the now regular internal BBC staff broadcast/zoomerooney/briefing this week. 

It comes from the Woman's Hour studio in Broadcasting House.  Tim Davie remembered being grilled there by the late Steve Hewlett for the Media Show. This, however, was no grilling. "Well done" said Lord Hall. "It's an honour" said Tim. "Did you have a good weekend ?" said Lord Hall. "I want people to know I didn't fix Crystal Palace being live on the BBC".

Tim says he's going to spend the time before he moves formally into the post "listening, thinking, and talking". (I think there'll be a little more than that going on). Football lingo crept in at the end - "It's going to be a roller coaster, but I intend to enjoy it". All over in four minutes, because Tim " had to go".
