Percentages

I'm afraid our leading hacks needs to stop mincing words about what's happening to the Prime Minister.  When you're this close to being put on a ventilator in the current epidemic, you're advised to have those 'end of life' conversations before it happens; a task which might divert anyone from paying attention to any job, let alone affairs of state.

The percentages are not good. Latest UK statistics from the Intensive Care National Audit and Research Centre show that, of patients with confirmed covid-19 who have been put into critical care - some form of invasive supply of oxygen and more - 344 came out alive and 346 died. Survivors were on support for an average of four days, those who died for an average of five days. There is, of course, a lag in reporting. The ICNARC's figures don't have, as yet, an outcome for more than 1,500 others in intensive care in the reports they have collected.
