Big

It was a pleasure to see The One Show studio being used so intelligently last night for the Big Night In.

I spent some time on the Broadcasting House project, and that space on the ground floor of the old Egton Wing was unloved and unwanted by the wider BBC throughout design and delivery. It was an opportunity for transparency that nervous nellies weren't prepared to take. It got marked as "Shop", "Exhibition Space" and "Security", but we kept it alive. It always should have been a studio; many  unimaginative departments deemed it too small.

The One Show was the first to take on the challenge properly, but last night's uncredited programme team made it look almost substantial. Perhaps it was the work of Comic Relief executive producer Peter Davey. Anyway, hats off to the design team and studio direction.
