Is it possible that Lord Hall has been contemplating his BBC exit for more than nine months ? He's emerged as Chairman of the Trustees of the National Gallery. Applications to be a Trustee closed in May last year, and Tony was announced as one of three successful candidates in November.
Hannah Rothschild stepped town as Chair in June. Sir John Kingman has been interim chair since then, and, spookily, chaired a meeting of Trustees on Friday. The minutes show he was appointed Deputy Chair, without explaining why. Clearly there was an un-minuted vote on Tone - the chair comes from current Trustees.
Lord Hall likes to keep busy, but presumably from summer can take the benefit of some off-peak fares from Henley, rather than the perennially crammed 0707.
