So far, there are only two candidates standing to be chair of the DCMS Select Committee, both Tories; Damian Collins as the continuity candidate, and the daft Julian Knight.
From their manifestos: Damian Collins: "In an era of digital content on demand and the rise of companies like Netflix, we need to understand what license [sic] fee payers want from the BBC and how it should be funded to deliver this. "
Julian Knight: "The BBC is an issue close to my heart, and there is a hugely valuable role for the DCMS Committee to be a critical friend to the Corporation as it tries to find a new, sustainable model and role in the years ahead. I propose that we serve as an unofficial ‘Royal Commission’ on the future of the Corporation, taking the lead and forging a cross-party consensus which can win support both across the House and beyond it."
