Older still

Gloomy figures for the main BBC TV channels from an internal document seen by the hacks at Broadcast. For the period April to September 2019, BBC1, BBC2 and BBC4 reached 46.6% of 16-34s each week, down from 51.9% for the same period in 2018.

BBC1 suffered the most, with reach dropping from 47% to 40.7% and share from 13.7% to 12.2%, year on year.

BBC3’s late night block launched on BBC1 in February this year, but has not been able to stop the declines. The 16-34 demographic now spends just over than one hour per week watching the channel.

At BBC2,  share of 16-34s increased slightly from 3.2% to 3.8% over the same period.

Is iPlayer coming to the rescue? In May, 37% of all BBC viewing from 16-34s came via iPlayer, compared to 12% for all ages.
