Property Week reports that the BBC has engaged Knight Frank to explore the Bristol area for 50,000 square foot of space. The BBC campus on Whiteladies Road, started in 1934, is based in ageing buildings, some Grade II-listed.
Part of the terrace was demolished in 1986, and a new block created with post-production facilities, restaurant, library, offices and reception. formally opened by Chris Patten in 1990. Bristol is home to local and network radio production, Points West, Countryfile, and the Natural History Unit.
Director of the South West Pat Connor is probably the client; she's been getting a taste for property development by joining the board leading the refurbishment of the Colston Hall.
It would be good to know more of Knight Frank's brief. How much is the Whiteladies site worth, given its listed status; are we looking for a crinkly tin hut on the outskirts, or a partnership development in a very crowded city centre ?
