The resolve of between one or two million who voted to 'remain' in 2016 was broken by the 2019 General Election campaign. The mind-numbing repetition of the meaningless Get Brexit Done wore them down; they couldn't face the Magic Grandpa or the Scottish Scout Leader; tactical voting came to nowt; they shrugged their shoulders and voted Boris.
The BBC is still obsessed with 'big'. Denied the use of a vast studio at Elstree, their Italian graphic artists added imaginary levels of Trump Tower-style building above Huw. There were too many playgrounds and dressing up corners - Jeremy, Reeta and Sophie (outdoor play), and, once again, more 'live' results replayed than holes in the Open Golf. Too much time on OBs ahead of real results - and simply, too many former political editors opining rather than reporting - Nick Robinson, Andrew Marr on top of Huw and Laura. However, it's absolutely undeniable that the result projection on Old Broadcasting House has become the iconic image of UK elections, re-used around the world.
The memorable moments: Alan Johnson laying into Jon Lansman on ITV; Alastair Campbell laying into Jon Lansman on BBC; a couple of savage monologues from fearless Katherine Ryan on C4; a combination of Jimmy Carr and Rylan Clark-Neal taking over steerage of C4's shipwreck from the ever pompous Krishnan Guru-Murthy.
The good stuff: Nick Robinson and Mishal Husain on top form for R4's Today - generally sharp and covering all the bases.
