Dad went, too
An addendum on Bob Willis. Bob’s Dad, Ted Willis, was a News Organiser in the Radio Newsroom at Broadcasting House in the 1970s. England were on an Ashes tour of Australia and the fast bowler, Alan Ward, got injured, as the year turned to 1971. Bob was sent for as the replacement, and played in the last four matches of the series. There was a whip-round in the newsroom and it raised enough for Ted to go out to Oz and watch his son play for England.
