Unequal

Another uncomfortable BBC equal pay story has emerged via The Guardian. Caroline Barlow, who used to work as a "Head of Product" in the Design & Engineering division, has won an £130k out-of-court settlement, after dropping an Employment Tribunal case alleging constructive dismissal, harassment and discrimination.

She found she was paid at a minimum £9,000 less than 15 male "Heads of Product", and £69,000 behind some of them on the same pay grade.  That was despite a 25% increase won through an informal pay case.

Caroline (Rugby School, BMus King's College, London and MMus, Goldsmith's) kicked off her career at Norland Managed Services, providing technical engineering support to big real estate owners. She joined Lloyds Bank as a learning consultant, and started at the BBC in 2012 as a Change and Transition Analyst in the Finance Effectiveness Programme. (Only at the BBC, eh ?). By 2013, she was a Benefits Realisation Lead.

In 2016, she moved to Design & Engineering as a Head of Product. She seemed to be looking after a major project on resource scheduling, based in Salford.
