Never knowingly undersold

I should probably flesh out my previous profile of man-in-a-hurry Lewis Goodall, who is to rejoin Newsnight from Sky, as 'Policy Editor' (I'm never sure whether there is other people's work to edit at Newsnight, or whether, in the utterly transparent Hughes D'Aeth framework, Newsnight 'editors' are paid more than 'reporters'.

Lewis grew up on a council estate in Northfield, not far from the Rover plant in Longbridge, Birmingham, where his dad worked. He wanted to be Prime Minister. He went to Turves Green Boys School, performing in the Year 6 production of Grease, and took his A-levels at Cadbury Sixth Form College. He got a scholarship to a summer camp at Oxford and set his hat at the University, going on to study History and Politics at St John's College, Oxford. Along the way, he got scholarships to Beijing and Paris, started blogging and was described by the Guardian as a "Labour Party activist".  He spent four months as an intern in the office of Democratic Congresswoman Diana DeGette.

His first proper job was as a researcher for Granada TV; then he took a similar role at James Purnell's IPPR, before arrival at the BBC the first time.

He's based in Brixton, and currently trains, like Huw Edwards, with boxer Clinton McKenzie.
