Quarter of a million

Let's take a year-on-year change of plus or minus 250,000 listeners as a filter to view the latest quarterly listening figures, and see where we stand on return on investment.

Scala Radio, with Simon Mayo as its mid-morning masthead, debuts with 258,000 listeners. I think they may have hoped for more. It's a tough sector - Classic FM is up 474,000.

Radio 2 meets my threshold in a number of ways. Zoe Ball is down 772,000 listeners on the Chris Evans show of a year ago. Ken Bruce now gets more listeners. Radio 2 as a whole is down 342,000.
Rebekah Brooks' investment of News UK funds in Chris Evans sees Virgin Radio up 1.1m.

Radio 1 is up 342,000 year on year; Absolute Radio drops 393,000. Radio 4 Extra is up 258,000. Radio 5Live is up a welcome 509,000 and 5Live Sports Xtra up 311,000 - nicer numbers for Controller Jonathan Wall to leave with than he might have expected.

Heart 80s is up 324,000. Kiss London is down 504,000. Kisstory is up 299,000. LBC across the UK just makes the threshold, up 252,000.
