Melanie v Lauren

Some entertaining reactions to the Spectator piece by Melanie McDonagh laying into Lauren Laverne as an inadequate host of that national treasure, Desert Island Discs.

Ms McDonagh has been a professional giver of opinions most her life, from birth in Arklow, County Wicklow, just south of Dublin, through presidency of the Cambridge Union in 1983, to comment, column and leader-writer for hire of present times. Until January 2018, Melanie was comment editor at the Evening Standard; she's now called senior writer, covering features, beauty, fragrance, arts and books. Last month she asked "Is any lipstick worth £100 ?" on behalf of Femail readers.  At Christmas she reviewed the Best Fragrances for Men and Women,  and the Best Anti-ageing Serums.

Below, a video from 2015 featuring a make-up free Melanie, talking non-stop without notes for 24 minutes. I've no idea what she's on about, and I've listened to it all so you don't have to. Perhaps she didn't have a producer.
