Luke sharp

The first special advisor appointed in the Nicky Morgan-led DCMS is Luke Tryl, 32, who was Nicky's SPAD when she was at Education. He grew up on the outskirts of Halifax, and went to Crossley Heath grammar school. He came out at 14, the same year he joined the Conservative party. "Once I came out, I didn’t experience any bullying. I was the first openly gay head boy, and people just saw it as part of the thing.” Apparently, Tory membership was "more challenging".

He got a first in Modern History and Politics from Magdalen, Oxford, where he also found time to be Union President. There, he invited BNP leader Nick Griffin and convicted Holocaust denier David Irving, to speak in a debate on free speech.

He was Education Officer at Stonewall before the Education Department. He's worked for Ofsted, and recently, the New Schools Network.
