University College Oxford is closing in on a new Master. Current top don is Sir Ivor Crewe, who stands down next year (after a tiring spell on the Augar Review), and the ambition is to appoint a successor by summer.
Sir Ivor is not unfamiliar to the media, often used as a commentator on election nights, but will the college follow the current 'showbiz' fixation of Oxbridge electing bodies ? Final interviews are imminent, conducted with the support of headhunters Russell Reynolds (director Lord Patten), and rumours reach me of a former R4 alumni still in the race. Will it be a woman ? Blokes have done it since 1353.
