Tony calls time

CNN International is looking for a new boss: Tony Maddox, 58, has announced he's leaving after 21 years with the organisation. He started in the London bureau, and was promoted to run 'newsgathering' at the Atlanta HQ (in succession to Chris Cramer) in 2003.  Tony's record at CNNi includes hiring Richard Quest and turning Christianne Amanpour into a regular presenter.

Before CNN, Maddox spent 13 years at the BBC, latterly as head of news and current affairs in Northern Ireland. He came to Belfast from the BBC in Plymouth where he was the editor of news and current affairs for the South West of England. His BBC career started with shifts at Radio Stoke and Radio Shropshire.

Tony, born in Knutton, failed his 11-plus, and boasts a degree in sociology from North Staffs Poly, and two years with Newcastle-under-Lyme band 'No Reason'.
