Articulation

A revelation of previously hidden tensions, in a letter to the Sunday Times, about Roger Mosey's "Crisis at the BBC" article.

"During my time at the BBC as controller of drama, Roger Mosey was my boss for nine months. I was not surprised to read, in his feature last week (“You OK, Auntie?”, Magazine), that he cannot now imagine a positive future for the BBC. In my view he struggled to articulate one when he was actually in charge of television.

The BBC’s death has been predicted throughout its 100-year history, but it remains a world-class organisation. The need to bring in young audiences is nothing new. When money was diverted into iPlayer, the naysayers argued it would be better spent on traditional services, but the BBC is unimaginable now without that innovation.

Rapid change is affecting all media organisations. The BBC has a simple set of public service values and a history of reinventing itself that stands it in good stead for the future.
