BBC Scotland has recorded a weekly reach of 32%, we are told. That means 32% of the population over 16 tuned in for at least 15 minutes over seven days. (Spookily, the channel is said to have cost £32m).
Is that good or bad ? BBC TV collectively in Scotland had a weekly reach of 87%, before the arrival of the newcomer. BBC News output in Scotland was reaching 50%. When I last looked for the rather sparse info on BBC Alba, the reach was close to 13%.
Reach is just one way of measuring success, but share will be a more important judgement on the investment. Ofcom's final prediction was a rather specific 2.18%; we'll soon know.
