Round the clock

"We’re creating a talent pool of producers on a freelance basis who we can contact to work with us at peak times."

Thus a new ad from BBC World News, the global tv service. I'm sure this is not an attempt to introduce a dock labour scheme at Broadcasting House, but the idea that global news - news from a world where someone is always awake - has peaks and troughs is a very UK-centric approach.

  1. Oh Bill. That's a cheap shot. You mean you really don't understand the difference between 'the world' and 'the rota of staff in the UK (where most of BBC World news output originates) that needs to be covered to keep it running not just through Christmas and summer, but also through any unpredictable peaks of activity such as obits, elections or other contingencies? Or if you really think BBC World News should be broadcast from overseas, following the sun, have you costed the facilities, resources and logistics that would need, to prove it can be done at same - or lower- cost? ;-)
