Disruption

More traffic out of the BBC Radio stable: R1Xtra Friday night host DJ Semtex is moving to CapitalXtra, owned by Global. He's also expected to do more with streaming service Spotify, where he already hosts a regular podcast.

The Sun thinks Global have also tapped up unhappy Simon Mayo to consider a move to either breakfast or drive at Smooth FM. "Sources close Mayo" told the paper it wouldn't happen.

Most observers think 1/1Xtra star Charlie Sloth is heading to Beats 1, the Apple Music radio station. That may also be where his weekly feature Fire in the Booth (currently licenced to the BBC, and visible on Sloth's own YouTube channel) ends up.

  • In 2015 Radio 1's Zane Lowe was the first BBC talent to head to Beats 1. In the same year George Ergatoudis left the role of Head of Music at Radio 1 for Spotify; last year he joined Apple Music. In 2016, Austin Daboh, Music Manager at 1Xtra left for Spotify, where he's just been promoted to Head of Shows and Editorial, UK.  In June this year 1Xtra's Music Editor Ryan Lowe left the network for Apple Music.
