When ITN won the contract to produce The Wright Stuff for Channel 5, starting in January 2018, the promise that was the show would be "re-invigorated". It would be interesting to learn if the pitch also included changing presenter.
The programme that Matthew Wright left yesterday after nearly 18 years as presenter now has quite a superstructure. Editor Ian Jones came from C5 News, Deputy Editor Emma Barrow used to produce This Morning, and lead programme director Dan Wright joined from ITV News. Executive producers are Ian Rumsey and Chris (Mr Martha Kearney) Shaw from ITN Productions and Rachel Corp, editor of Channel 5 News. The Mirror talks about tensions with their presenter; there were also some technical issues moving the show to a new studio at ITN in Grays Inn Road.
Anne Diamond, Daisy McAndrew, Trisha Goddard and Claudia Liza-Armah are among those who stood in for Matthew over the past year.
