Gav gone

I'm led to believe that the BBC and Gavin Hewitt have parted company.

Whicker-esque tv reporter Gavin, 66, a son of Penge, has lately been styled as Chief Correspondent, which apparently allowed him to cover the US Presidential Elections. Wikipedia has him down, uncorrected, as the BBC's News Editor.

Gavin went to St John's in Leatherhead and thence to Durham, where, in his down-time, he worked on a BBC Radio Durham show entitled, enticingly, "University Term Time". This helped secure a job at Radio Brighton, and, at 24, he was accepted on the BBC News Trainee scheme.

He's written three books - "Terry Waite - Why Was He Kidnapped ?"; an autobiography, "A Soul On Ice - A Life In News", and "The Lost Continent".  Here's his pitch as to why, you know, you should read his take on Europe.

Gav's twitter handle now has him down as "writer and broadcaster".
