Cake and eat it

DCMS junior minister Lord Ashton (family crest - a mount Vert a Mower proper vested paly Argent and Sable in the act of whetting his Scythe also proper) has told the Lords that, in the long term, BBC Studios will not have to disclose talent salaries. But, in a display of consistency becoming too familiar in the May Government, they will have to disclose names and dosh above £150k paid out directly for this financial year, before Studios become a commercial subsidiary, expected to happen from 2017/8.

The move leaves talent employed directly by BBC News, Sport and Children's exposed to the disclosure rule, coming in alongside the new Charter.
