Commentary

It's just BBC Radio 5Live and TalkSport sharing live Premier League commentary for the next three years. Absolute Radio, which has had second pick of the Saturday 3pm kick-offs (after 5Live) for the past six years, dropped out of the bidding, though it still plans a Saturday football show with scores, etc.

This time the League split the games on offer into 8 packages rather than 7. 5Live won 5, comprising some 144 matches - retaining Saturday lunchtime and afternoon (first pick) kick-offs, Sunday late afternoon matches, adding any Friday matches to its existing Monday night games, and sweeping up any remaining midweek and bank holiday fixtures. That's up from 5Live's previous total of 128. TalkSport held on to Saturday tea-time and Sunday lunchtime, and won the second pick Saturday package. They say they'll run that commentary on TalkSport 2, which is on DAB and online.

There's no word, so far, on the prices paid.
