Yet another view

Joining the encampment of tv hacks outside Parliament today, waiting for a vote on bombing more square miles of the Middle East, is new entrant TRT World. This English-language news service is funded by Turkey's state broadcaster and has studios in Istanbul, Washington and Vauxhall.  TRT is funded by a mixture of a 14-18% levy on sales of televisions, and 2% scooped from household electricity bills, though there have been suggestions of moving to a straightforward lump sum direct from general taxation.
