Congratulations to former BBC World Service boss Peter Horrocks, now at the Open University, who has acquired the status of Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. It's a gong not yet awarded to Mark Thompson, Mark Byford, Richard Sambrook, Roger Mosey and many other BBC journalism luminaries, though proudly part of Mark Damazer's Twitter handle.
Others have left the World Service unsung. When Peter arrived, in 2009/10, there were 2,017 employees. In 2013/14 there were 1,583.
