A question of age

John Cody Fidler-Simpson turned 70 last week. Does this make him the oldest ever serving BBC Correspondent ?

(I use the capital because Alistair Cooke, who was only briefly on the BBC staff as a film critic in the 30s, broadcast his last Letter from America at the age of 95. Like Simpson, he had "Editor of Granta", the Cambridge University magazine on his CV).
