Olla podrida

BBC Studios and Post-production have delayed their return to studios at Television Centre, and extended their rental of facilities at Elstree by two years. There's no mention of money in the BBC report of the news, and it probably comes too late to be reflected in this year's balance sheet - but it's hard to believe a delay of this scale doesn't muck up business planning and lose licence-fees.

Readers with a special interest in the ups, downs, and downs, of the BBC's relationship with Birmingham will recognise the emotion in this short history of tv production in the city, and some strong views on the players involved.

My old chum and Essex exemplar extraordinaire Peter Allen will have been amused to have been placed at Number 3 in a list of "100 Prolific Northerners for 2014".  On second reading, however, I realise that the countdown on the PR-focused website is alphabetical. Still, a honour for Rochford's No 1 son....
