Despite offering a clutch of little, regionalised tender options, the BBC has awarded all its catering contracts to the South African-backed Servest Group. Servest didn't do catering until it bought Tamworth-based 7 Day Catering in January last year - the BBC put the catering contract out in May. 7 Day do IKEA's meatballs, staff catering for Tesco, Asda and Sainsbury, a couple of building firms like Laing O'Rourke and Travis Perkins, and Southern Water in Worthing. The only media company I can find is Lime Pictures, makers of Hollyoaks, based in Childwall, Liverpool.

7 Day Managing Director is Henry Watts, previously with accountancy firm BDO. He appeared as an extra on a Question of Sport Christmas Special, dressed as Roland Rat throwing snowballs at the ‘mystery personality’ Santa.

I'm told that the tendering process didn't involve any tastings of the kind of food that the bidder might be offering - BBC Workplace were happy to go on price.
