Trickle back

As regular readers will know, elements of bulldozer support for BBC Alba, itself not a bad thing, make me cross. So when the BBC Trust took the decision to wipe most BBC Radio networks off Freeview in Scotland from 5pm to create space for the Gaelic tv service, two years ago, I got grumpy. The move was implemented in June 2011.

Now, reports Radio Today, the BBC distribution team has found that there's bandwidth to bring back eight of the thirteen that were sacrificed, because there's less Red Button activity. The networks coming back on Freeview north of the border in the evening (some just in mono, all with reduced bit rate) are...

BBC Radio Scotland (mono)
BBC Radio 1Xtra
BBC Radio 4 (mono)
BBC Radio 4 Extra (mono)
BBC Radio 5 live
BBC Radio 5 live sports extra (mono)
BBC Radio 6 Music
BBC Asian Network

Still missing after 5pm: Radio 1,2, 3, BBC Radio nan GĂ idheal and BBC World Service.
