World dominance

It's usually a good idea to blame Mark Byford. In his rise to the top at the BBC, he was the first Director of the Global News Division. At the time -2002 - this hyperbolic creation seemed more at home in the pages of Superman magazines, born out of the Daily Planet, begetter of the Galaxy Broadcasting System, and dedicated opponents of the evil LexCorp and Lexcom.

Now they're all at it. Kate Couric has just been announced as Yahoo's Global News Anchor - she'll start when costume fittings are done, in 2014. Bill Neely, of ITN, is to be Chief Global Correspondent and Second Pilot of the Future for NBC. I see that from the schedules of BBC World News that Jon "Kenobi" Sopel now hosts a weekday programme called Global in which he "explains the day's global news and what it means to you". He's my superhero.
