Unconfined joy - but lasting ?

Having failed to 'call' Hall, dear readers, I will not be offended if you pass my musings by, at least for a while.

But idle speculation is an incurable condition - so here's the latest chapter of 'Cherchez la executive femme' at the BBC.

Lord Hall has kindly offered to 'help' Tim Davie fill the vacancies on the Executive Board. We won't know how many there will be until the Pollard Review runs its course. Inside the BBC it's still largely men jostling for permanent positions close to tiggerish Tony's ermine. He knows, however, that new female blood is needed. It's not likely to be Darcy Bussell or Angela Gheorghiu in the boardroom, but we should look to Tony's media connections maintained during his decade of dance and divas for clues.

So yesterday's palpable joy of the Ancien Regime will be tempered slightly ahead of March. Will Yentob be as cheerful then ? Who will be showing the DG round the completed Newsroom ?  One creative head for tv and radio, or two ?

For the workers, we should note Tony's arrival comes close to the end of the financial year. Wise, given DQF and the additional costs trailing Savile. The BBC was a growth industry when Tony was last on the books; can he bring joy AND make it smaller ?
