O Tempora

Two old BBC hands were spotted in the background of the scenes that launched Tony Hall as the next Director General of the BBC.

Nicholas Kroll, Director of the BBC Trust, Keeper of the Crusty Rolls of Governance, and Scrutineer of Process Appropriate, was there with former BBC press smoother, Donald Steel. Mr Kroll did not seemed unduly bowed by the new recruitment policy his Trustees have adopted - ring someone up and see if they want the job. But who recruited Mr Steel ?  Was this a one-off ?
