Mark Thompson's three lectures at Oxford University earlier this month have been described by Mark Damazer, his host at St Peter's College Chapel, as "thrilling". But then, it's a language he understands. Even reading them slowly is hard work for me. OK, so Thommo explains most of the abstruse, and the Latin and Greek as he goes - but then, why use them, unless it's some sort of academic willy-waving ?
No wonder people at the BBC didn't let him write his own letters.
