Niehaus News

The renewed interest in the work of saxophonist and composer Lennie Niehaus continues to spread. Lennie, now 83, lives just north of Los Angeles, and is probably so far unaware that his name populates a large part of the BBC music database - though we're trying to make contact.

As far as I can tell, his most recent recording as a straight-ahead School of Cool West Coast jazzer was "Live at Capozzoli's", issued on Woofy Records. Sadly, Capozzoli's, a late night haunt for Vegas stars just off the Maryland Parkway, burned down in 2007. It opened in 1985 - owner Bobby Capozzoli also ran the Tower of Pizza.

Meanwhile here's Lennie's very jazzy score for the 1990 Clint Eastwood film, The Rookie. Some very bad words at the beginning.  Beyond that, play loud through big speakers....
