Radio Today notes that Radio 5 Live has picked up the prize for Best News Channel at the 2012 Freesat Awards – beating three tv channels to first place.

Other nominees up against 5 live were Al Jazeera English, the BBC News Channel and CNN. The judges said: “BBC Radio 5 Live was the clear winner in this category – a channel which we all felt was ‘agile, quick and intelligent’, and with some of the best presenters around.”

And the pleasure is doubled when you realise the quality of the judging panel - not all of these will have made the news call, but you can imagine who might be involved...
