On report

The BBC Symphony Orchestra must be safe - why else issue a three-year contract , starting in 2013, to new principal conductor, Sakari Oramo ?   But there's still no sign of the report commissioned from consultant John Myerscough on the future of the BBC Orchestras and Singers as whole.  The BBC Executive expected it to be handed in before Christmas. It was commissioned because the Delivering Quality First workstreams thought directly-employed musicians shouldn't avoid 25% cuts, and Mark Thompson put that one straight in the "too difficult" tray.

As we noted here, Radio 1 has been bolstering the finances of the BBC Concert Orchestra, by hiring them to play for Chris Moyles' birthday...

Meanwhile, another report beginning with M, the Myers report into different ways of saving money in the way BBC local radio operates, WILL see the light of day next week. Plain-speaking, ebullient, irrepressible John Myers has hinted that there may be some difficult messages for management in this typically frank tweet....
