Farming News

My old Radio News and Five Live colleague Andrew Thorman is leaving the BBC. Andrew, whose name will probably be unspotted by millions at the end of the Countryfile credits, but may be known to others through the industrial tribunal brought by Miriam O'Reilly, has had an action-packed 35-year career with Auntie.

From early days as West Country 60s hippy surfer and newspaper hack, he joined Radio Oxford as a reporter in 1976, and has progressed to Head of Rural Affairs. On the way, he's bounced round Radio WM, the Radio Newsroom, Newsgathering and Five Live with programme ideas and stories - some of them turkeys, but plenty not. Moving Countryfile from Sunday lunchtime to primetime was his call - and Controllers of BBC1 will probably have reason to be grateful to him for years to come.
