What impact will the campaigning group Sound Women have on the contest for a new BBC DG ? Their research featured on Woman's Hour this morning, when it was pointed out that the only BBC local radio show with a main solo female presenter is Helen Lee on Three Counties (and that only on a Milton Keynes opt-out). This is on Helen Boaden's patch... as is the fact that 31 of 40 local radio stations are run by men, and 10 of the 12 Regional Heads are men. There are three vacancies at local radio stations - I expect a fourth ere long.
Radio 2 was "condemned" for it's 8am to 8pm roster, where only Elaine Paige breaks the male list of presenters. (This almost guarantees that Zoe Ball, who's given up the weekend early show, will be replaced by a woman - Lynn Parsons steps in, while Controller Bob Shennan has a think). This is on Tim Davie's patch...

I like to think I'm a main solo presenter as well - there are quite a few of us actually - Helen is the only female solo breakfast presenter.
