Out of the fryer...

A big year ahead for Richard Frediani. Currently running the ITV news team in Manchester, he's returning to ITN to lead their 6.30pm national news operation.  This might, in turn, become an integrated national and regional newshour, starting at 6.00pm, hoping to catch some Nationwide zeitgeist.

Like many BBC bosses, Richard will be a weekly commuter - though he'll be heading south as the BBC apparatchiks head to MediaCityUK. The regular trek is something he's done before - he spent ten years at in London, first at Independent Radio News, then as deputy news editor and news editor at ITN. ITN
 .
It's been a difficult 2011 for Richard's dad, Umberto. He runs a fish and chip shop in Watery Lane, Ashton-on-Ribble, Preston, and business has been hit by major construction work. Richard, who lives nearby in Penwortham, has been known to help out behind the counter.  But presumably only at weekends from now on.
