I'm very pleased, for former colleagues, that Radio Newcastle has won station of the year in the internal Gillard awards - and that BBC Essex came second.

There were no medals for afternoon presenters, facing the chop or "clustering" under the Delivering Quality First cuts proposed by management, and now under consideration by the BBC Trust. Indeed, the last time there were glittering prizes at that hour of the day was a Gold for Laurence Reed at Cornwall and a Bronze for Jo Theones at Oxford in 2009.
