Congratulations to Ben Cooper, anointed successor to Andy Parfitt as Controller of Radio1 and 1Xtra. Mr Parfitt, who also had other strings to his bow, like the unlamented Switch, and the odd title Controller of Popular Music, left on a total package of £218,000. There's no word on how much he's still being paid to do leadership development work on behalf of Tim Davie.
Prior to Ben, the most recently appointed controller was Gwyneth Williams, at Radio 4, currently on a total package of £187,800. I suggest Ben will be lucky to beat that. I suspect there also might be a management restructure imminent at Yalding, and Ben's old title of Deputy Controller might go. Deputies are so not DQF.
