It's show time next week at MediaCityUK. Not for the broadcasters, but the students.
If the warm weather stays, the piazza may well welcome its biggest crowd so far. 1,500 students clock on this Tuesday - with 300 staff from Salford University. It'll be a test of the security guards on their Segways; students are generally impossible to keep neat and tidy - and may clash with Peel's view of appropriate site decorum. The obvious mismatch in timetable is the opening of Booths supermarket - set for October 19. Where will the youth get chicken until then ?
Meanwhile the broadcasting changes continue; North West Tonight has bid farewell to Gordon Burn - so Monday sees the first day of Roger Johnson. Stephen Nolan's late night weekend show on 5Live has moved into MediaCityUK - he's not yet been caught eating crisps on the new webcams, but station executives are slightly concerned about a build-up of general detritus visible on-screen after just a week of Tony Livesey. Back in London, Simon Jack has avoided the Breakfast tv move to Salford by jumping ship to the Today programme.
